David Himes three-time Gause 26 owner

David Himes — three-time Gause owner and always finding his way back to Gause.

Their Story

Nothing Compares

Some owners find their perfect boat once. David Himes has found his three times.

A three-time Gause Built owner, David’s history with the brand spans multiple boats, different configurations, and plenty of years on the water. His first was a 2007 26′ Gause with a full tower, followed by a 2012 with a T-top. Today, he’s back behind the helm of a refurbished 2007 26′ Gause with a Bimini.

He’s owned and tried other boats along the way, but somehow, the journey keeps leading him back to Gause.

“I always seem to come home to a GB.”

Three Boats, One Brand

For David, the appeal of Gause has always been a combination of things: the unmistakable look, the versatility, and the family atmosphere surrounding the brand.

Growing up and spending much of his time boating around Tarpon Springs and the greater Tampa Bay area, Gause Built Boats became a familiar part of life on the water.

Today, David lives on Florida’s east coast near New Smyrna Beach, but the qualities that made his first Gause the right boat for him haven’t changed.

Where Everyone Comes Together

David has certainly put plenty of fish in his Gause boats over the years, but ask him about his favorite memories and the fishing stories aren’t the first ones that come to mind.

They’re the moments with his family.

With a professional life that has always involved a great deal of travel, time aboard the boat became something particularly valuable—a place where everyone could simply be together.

Some of his favorite photos tell that story perfectly: his daughter sleeping underneath the dodger or jumping off the side of the boat into the water.

They’re simple moments, but they’re the ones that have stayed with him.

“The boat is the one place we can all be together.”

A Different Kind of Versatility

His current 2007 Gause brings something different to the three boats he’s owned before: no permanent top.

With a Bimini setup, David loves what he calls being “topless.”

For him, the open configuration takes the versatility of the boat to another level. It creates an unobstructed layout when the shade isn’t needed, while the Bimini can provide generous coverage when family and friends fill the boat.

After owning a full tower, a T-top, and now a Bimini-equipped Gause, David has experienced firsthand just how differently the same platform can be configured around the way an owner uses it.

Always Coming Back to Gause

Three Gause boats. Three different setups. Countless days on the water.

There have been other boats mixed in along the way, too. Each had features David appreciated, but none managed to keep him away from Gause for long.

Maybe that’s what makes his story such a fitting example of what it means to be part of the Gause family.

Sometimes you have to try something different to realize you’ve already found what works.

And for David, the way home always seems to lead back to Gause.
